City Council member Cindy Carlisle said in a recent study session that there is “fatigue” among community members when it comes to tourists. We don’t know if this is reflective of Council’s overall view, but given that City sales tax is currently declining, we disagree. We believe that Boulder should continue to welcome tourists from around the globe or visitors from neighboring cities to our community. We join many in expressing pride in being a city of welcoming spaces; whether we are hosting national events like the Ironman Triathlon or homegrown treasures like Art Fair and Lights of December. We support smaller scale retail options downtown and elsewhere around the city in order to remain nimble in an uncertain retail environment that will help keep Boulder’s retail options local, unique and vibrant.
