In August, members of the Better Boulder Board of Directors interviewed all candidates for Mayor and City Council. We offer our sincere thanks to all who chose to run. Our endorsements reflect our mission and our values.

Aaron Brockett for Mayor

Aaron Brockett for Mayor
A former member of our Board of Directors, Aaron Brockett has consistently and admirably embodied the goals of Better Boulder. He has been a voice for Better Boulder’s vision of a vibrant, livable and connected community as a member and former chair of Planning Board, council member and currently as mayor. Examples include his early strong advocacy for Vision Zero and strong support for the full spectrum of housing options. In general, his depth of knowledge and character make Aaron Brockett our clear choice for mayor.

For Council we offer the following endorsements:

Tara Winer for Re-election

Tara Winer for Re-election
Tara Winer has been a responsive, hard-working, and evolving council member during her first term. We admire her commitment to transportation equity and bicycle safety, and housing accessibility. We also appreciate her willingness to meet with Boulder residents and truly consider their differing perspectives – a quality that has become a true hallmark of her character as council member.

Ryan Schuchard for Council

Ryan Schuchard
Currently serving on the Transportation Advisory Board, Ryan is a strong advocate for a transit-rich community with more protected bikeways and pedestrian options. He brings professional expertise and personal enthusiasm to helping Boulder reach our climate and housing goals. We also appreciate his humility regarding insight on certain community issues, yet inquisitive interest in understanding policy nuances.

Taishya Adams for Council

Taishya Adams
With her top goal of climate resilience, Taishya Adams is running to foster stronger connections, accountable and transparent governance that is community-led and community-driven. A former member of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife commission, she intends to use her experience and expertise to elevate the voices and concerns of the disenfranchised and marginalized. Better Boulder believes Taishya will be an important voice in our policy debates on City Council.

Waylon Lewis for Council

Waylon Lewis
Remember fun? Waylon remembers fun! With strong roots in Boulder, Waylon’s campaign envisions an affordable, sustainable, vibrant future that helps Boulder restore some of its diverse and unique character. We share Waylon’s commitment to climate advocacy and innovation, a car-free lifestyle, abundant housing options and to having fun getting there. Waylon will well-represent the effort to recapture the soul of Boulder in future planning and redevelopment.

Aaron Neyer

Honorable Mention – Aaron Neyer
Newcomer Aaron Neyer’s engagement, energy and intelligence caught our eye. We hope he stays involved, explores service on a City board or commission, and runs again in the future.

We support the County Issue 1B – Affordable Housing Extension Tax (County Issue 1B) to further invest regionally in affordable and attainable housing. We echo Boulder City Council’s request that the County:

  • Expand permanently supportive housing (PSH) across the county, with a minimum of 25% revenues generated to provide housing coupled with services to those living on the brink.
  • Fund and implement transitional housing to increase opportunities for success toward securing permanent supportive housing.
  • Provide support to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless and invest the money necessary to allow them to expand their services to meet the growing needs in our community.
  • Work with the City of Boulder to implement the High System Utilizer proposal by the Interagency task Force on Boulder Unhoused High Utilizers
